In the midst of beautiful Snowdonia

The Mountaineering
Cottage and Barn

A delightful Mountaineering Cottage and Barn in the Heart of Snowdonia

Set in the hills above Bethesda with views as far as the sea, the former slate miners Cottage and Barn are the ‘club hut’ for both Peterborough and Wellingborough Mountaineering Clubs.  It is an ideal base for likeminded walkers, climbers and mountain bikers who need a base for their outdoor adventures in the beautiful Snowdonia National Park.

Owned and managed by Northamptonshire Mountaineers Ltd., it is the ‘club hut’ for both Peterborough and Wellingborough Mountaineering Clubs, and has been since it was bought back in 1958.

The cottage bunk rooms sleep 15 people and the barn bunk room sleeps 16. Gas is supplied for cooking and heating and the cottage and barn are both equipped with cooking and eating utensils and tables and chairs. The cottage also benefits from a newly installed log burner. There is a separate toilet block which includes segregated toilets and showers. Overall, the facilities are of a good standard for mountaineering club buildings. Behind the barn there is also a small area of land suitable for camping in the summer.

The Peterborough Mountaineering Club (PMC) visits the barn on the third weekend of the month when the club has exclusive use. The first weekend of each month is reserved for Wellingborough Mountaineering Club (WMC) use. PMC members can join WMC meets and vice versa if permission is first sought and space is available. The cottage is available for hire at any time by other mountaineering clubs, and like minded outdoors groups, clubs and mountain guides.
